not a blog

I want the story of my career to be a newspaper, not a novel.
I've been putting this off for a while now. What would I even say? I’m a graphic designer, but I don’t have a single, clear focus or style or goal that would make for an interesting narrative.
I have too many interests to focus on just one. I like learning different skills and I love to collect experiences and try new things. The random assortment of projects in my portfolio will attest to that.
Newspage design, quickly followed by magazine design, were my first design loves and first few jobs in my career. There is something about publication design and visual communication that draws me in. I love to make a story come alive on the printed page, but I've also dabbled in web design, tablet publications, and managed social media accounts as well. Stories don't stop at print.
I have worked on logos and branding for small businesses, a trade show booth (from the tablecloth and tent, to posters and brochures, and even the freebies to give away), a cookbook, wedding invitation suites, software icons, newsletters, social media campaign graphics, and more. All of these things help people tell their own stories, in a way.
Throughout high school and college I was told to follow my dreams and pursue my passions. I don’t really have a passion though, and I certainly didn't when I was in high school or college. I couldn't decide on a single story for my work life.
But I do keep coming back to design. So maybe that counts for something.
